"My Journey" Update

It has been a long two days. I had testing all afternoon yesterday and had to go back this morning. I have had an EKG, blood work, chest xray, Breast MRI and a meeting with the radiation oncologist. My butt was kicked this afternoon and I had to get in a two hour nap. I feel much better now. Let me just say one thing....if you ever get this unfortunate disease...plan on showing your boobs a lot. I haven't taken my shirt and bra off so much in two days ever in my life. The Breast MRI was a little different. For that I had to undress and put on hospital gown and pants. They put in an IV to run a contrasting dye that would show up in the tissue of the breasts. I had to lay on my stomach with my boobs hanging down into two holes on the table. Now isn't that a visual? Why I am telling this......so maybe it will help someone out that may have to endure this. The MRI was easy.....shoved into a machine with my boobs hanging below a table and me with headphones on. Geesh!!! The good news about that is my dr. called me at home tonight...about 8:30 and said she was so happy that my MRI didn't show any other spots of cancer but the one that was found on the original mammogram. I was really happy about that. Means we are really doing well so far. We still have to biopsy the lymph nodes during surgery to make sure they didn't go there but hey.....so far it has been good news and I am a happy camper. Tomorrow is one more dr. visit to my PCP for the pre op physical which is mainly paperwork and then I am good to go on Monday.
Just let me tell you what I have to do Monday morning. They are going to do a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy before the surgery. I have to use a numbing cream at home before I go and wrap my boob in Saran Wrap, put my bra on and go to the hospital. Please God don't let there be a car wreck. I could see explaining that. Maybe I should stamp some flowers on the Saran Wrap to make it pretty or better yet...it will be St. Patty's Day....how about shamrocks?
Some of you may think I am blowing this off. I'm not. I have always tried to make the best of any situation and this is no different. If I can't have my fun with it I would be sitting here crying.
I hope all of you reading this has had a good day. I did after my running and nap. Now it is time to get ready for bed. GOODNIGHT!!!!!!

Perhaps you can find some green colored plastic wrap :) I love your spirit, Rita. I'd rather laugh than cry any day so I can certainly appreciate your sense of humor. Glad to hear your news has been good so far. You'll stay in our prayers.

Seeing as you do things, I think you might be asking for collars (not sure about that word in English). Like a Mardigrass. But make it collars with bitty blossoms and beads for your craft. LOL. If every person give you one for every time you show your breasts, you'll have your room full of supplies in no time. What do you think of that?

Well, trying to show you another bright side.

Now, seriously. I'm glad that it is the only area affected. I have a friend who's doing her mamograms every three months because there is something that might be cancer. Her family has died of different kinds of cancer and she's worried. At least you know what you have and just in time. Take care!

Ya know....attitude really does count. I think you *should* decorate your Saran Wrap and give yourself and everyone who sees it a smile. It will make you feel better and less anxious to see that you're bringing some humor to this whole thing. If that's your "style," then do it. :) I do hope all goes well with the biopsy.

Hugs,

Karen
